Jalsa Salana Qadian

Annual Convention of the community in India

Jalsa Salana is the formal, annual gathering of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community initiated by Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the Promised Messiah(as). Usually, the gathering spans over three days, beginning on Friday after the Friday Sermon.

“The primary purpose of this Convention is to enable every sincere individual to personally experience religious benefits; They may enhance their knowledge and –due to their being blessed and enabled by Allah, The Exalted- their perception [ of Allah ] may progress. Among its secondary benefits is that this congregational meeting together will promote mutual introduction among all brothers, and it will strengthen the fraternal ties within this Community..”

“I re-emphasize that you must not rank this convention in the same league as other, ordinary, human assemblies. This is a phenomenon that is based purely on the Divine Help, for propagation of Islam.”

Islam lays emphasis on the importance of religious tolerance to such an extent that it will be impossible to find such high standards anywhere else. Other people tend to believe that until other religions are proven to be false, they are unable to prove the truth of their religion. Islam’s approach is very different because it teaches that whilst Islam is a true religion sent for all of mankind, the truth is that all prophets of God were sent to all people and nations of the world. This is clearly mentioned in the Holy Qur’an. Allah has said that all prophets were sent by Him with teachings of love and affection, and so all true Muslims must accept them.

Due to this fundamental principle of Islam Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad the Promised Messiah and Mahdi(as) says in his well-known essay, which was read out in Lahore in the Conference of Great Religions Dharam Mahutsu on 27th December 1896:

“ In this auspicious Conference the purpose of which is that those who have been invited to participate in it should expound the merits of their respective religions with reference to the questions that have been formulated. I shall today set forth the merits of Islam. Before I proceed to do so I deem it proper to announce that I have made it obligatory upon myself that whatever I state will be based upon the Holy Quran which is the Word of God Almighty. I consider it essential that everyone who follows a book, believing it to be revealed, should base his exposition upon that book and should not so extend the scope of his advocacy of his faith as if he is compiling a new book.”

The founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community recognized the noble teachings of the great religious founders and saints, including Zoroaster, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Krishna, Buddha, Confucius, Lao Tzu, and Guru Nanak, and explained how their original teachings converge into true Islam.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community follows and lives by these teachings and shows respect towards all religious founders. It is these teachings of understanding, tolerance and compassion that we promote and spread to the corners of the world.

The annual gathering of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community initiated by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad the Promised Messiah and Mahdi(as) is also worth mentioning, which usually spans over three days, beginning on Friday after the Friday Sermon. Which is intended to serve and establish the purpose of inter religious harmony and which avails of the opportunity to come and create an atmosphere of love and affection and gather on the values we share. Especially, the ultimate common value of the Entity of God Almighty. As God Almighty says in the Holy Qur’an:

Say, ‘O People of the Book! come to a word equal between us and you — that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partner with Him, and that some of us take not others for Lords beside Allah.’ But if they turn away, then say, ‘Bear witness that we have submitted to God.’ ( 3:65)

In fact, despite differences in religion, we are the creation of One Creator and Lord. So to win the pleasure of the Creator, live as one by removing all religious differences and putting human values foremost so that we can become united against that devil who wants to destroy the peace of the world.

In the second day’s program of Jalsa Salana, a Remarkable Interfaith session is being held which is themed around ‘Religious Leaders Day’. Amply reflects the outstanding inter-religious harmonious theme of community ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’. Which follows a series of short discourses by dignitaries and other religious leaders who equally share their vision of universal compassion and inter-religious harmony.

It is also an occasion when people of other religions and faiths and also members of the government come forward and express their views in regards to the values and work undertaken by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. This is also a valuable opportunity to understand how this community is different from other sects of Muslims.

Moreover, This session is also known as the Guest Session which goes back to the traditions of the early days whereby non-member/non-Ahmadi guests were invited to help understand Ahmadiyya message and relate and comment on the faith and the activities of the community.

To the pleasant benefit of the attendees and guests, an exclusive exhibition by the title of Islam, World Peace runs parallel to the Jalsa. The exhibition, using large and colourful posters, elaborately presented the peaceful teachings of Islam and the tireless efforts of His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad(aba), the worldwide head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, for the cause of global peace.
