Khalifa Explains: Overcoming Academic Pressure with Faith and Hard Work

Success comes from steadiness—through daily effort, heartfelt prayer, and leaving the rest to Allah, trusting His wisdom in every step.

On 12 October 2025, a delegation of Nasiratul Ahmadiyya (the Ahmadi young girls’ auxiliary) and Waqifat-e-Nau (female life devotees within the Community) had the honour of meeting the Worldwide Head and Fifth Caliph of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmadaba, at Islamabad, Tilford, UK. During the meeting, one of the girls asked His Holiness how she could overcome the overwhelming pressure to succeed in her studies and learn to trust Allah’s plan. His Holiness responded as follows:

You should have firm faith that when you do good deeds and pray sincerely, Allah listens. Whenever you feel stressed or overwhelmed, offer two units of voluntary prayers—making heartfelt supplications in sajdah (prostration). Also, give something in charity, helping someone in need, or donating through any charity organisation. You may also donate in charity schemes of our Jamaat, or give sadaqah (alms). Acts of charity bring comfort and peace to the heart. You should also recite durood sharif (sending blessings upon the Holy Prophetsa).

There is no need to place unnecessary pressure on yourself. Your primary focus should be your studies. What do you want to pursue? [The girl replied that she aspires to be a doctor]. If you wish to become a doctor, then you should study—but without being stressed. Nevertheless, you should also not become overly relaxed, thinking you would pass without any effort. Study during the time you have and pray to Allah.

Revise what you learn at school when you return home. If you regularly do your homework and revise your lessons each day, you will retain what you learn. Then, whether you have weekly tests, monthly assessments, or mock exams, you will continue to pass them with good grades and build a strong academic base. With a strong foundation, there will be no need to feel stressed.

After you have worked hard to the best of your ability, prayed to Allah, and given charity, then place your trust in Him. Say, “O Allah now I leave the matter to You.” When you trust Allah in this way, He will not let your efforts go to waste. He will ensure that you succeed.

But constantly worrying about whether you answered a maths or biology question correctly—replaying things again and again in your mind—would only burden your thoughts and would bring no benefit. So you should remain calm. Stay relaxed, work hard, pray, and give charity—and that is what it means to truly put one’s trust in Allah.
