Love and loyalty for one’s nation is an integral part of every Muslim’s faith.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community India extends its heartfelt Independence Day wishes to all the people of the nation. We view with immense respect those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country. It is through their sacrifices that our generations have the opportunity to breathe the air of freedom.
India is a democratic country where every citizen plays an equal role in the development of the nation. On this occasion of Independence Day, it is essential that we reflect on our duties towards our country and its people.
Advising his countrymen, the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas, states:
“My countrymen, a religion which does not inculcate universal compassion is no religion at all. Similarly, a human being without the faculty of compassion is no human at all. Our God has never discriminated between one people and another. This is illustrated by the fact that all the potentials and capabilities which have been granted to the Aryans have also been granted to the races inhabiting Arabia, Persia, Syria, China, Japan, Europe and America… These attributes of God teach us the lesson that we, too, should behave magnanimously and kindly towards our fellow human beings and should not be petty of heart and illiberal.”

The Holy Prophetsa taught that love for one’s nation is a part of faith. Therefore, sincere patriotism is a requirement in Islam. To truly love God and Islam requires a person to also love his nation. It is evident that there can be no conflict between a person’s love for God and love for his country. Since love for one’s country is an essential part of Islamic teachings, it is clear that a Muslim should strive to demonstrate high standards of loyalty to his nation. This loyalty is a means of getting closer to God. Thus, it is impossible that a true Muslim’s love for God would act as an impediment to his love for the country.
Islam enjoins the observance of the laws of the land and advises the inhabitants of any country to refrain from acts that are immoral, objectionable, or rebellious. On this occasion, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community India urges all citizens to play a positive and significant role in promoting the country’s peace, development, and welfare.
On this auspicious day, let us strive to build a harmonious society by embracing the principles of humanity and eliminating differences based on caste, colour, creed, and religion. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community India prays that Allah keeps our beloved country, India, as a cradle of peace and blesses it with continued development. Amin.
