NEMATULLAH NAWAZ, NATIONAL DEPUTY DIRECTOR, OUTREACH
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community participated in an interfaith seminar on “Climate Justice” organised by the Christian Institute for Religious Studies on 28 March at Baring College. The seminar brought together scholars, practitioners, and faith leaders from diverse religious traditions to deliberate on the pressing issue of climate justice and to explore collaborative solutions rooted in ethical and spiritual values.
The programme featured representatives from Christian, Sikh, and Hindu communities. Bishop Manoj Charan, Diocese of Amritsar, addressed the gathering from a Christian perspective, highlighting moral responsibility towards creation, while Adv. Panwan Sukhbir Singh shared insights from Sikh teachings on environmental stewardship. Mr Neeraj Sharma spoke on the subject from the perspective of Hinduism, emphasising harmony with nature.
Presenting the Islamic viewpoint, Mr K Tariq Ahmed, Additional National Director for Outreach, highlighted the concept of climate justice in light of the Holy Quran, the sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammadsa, and the teachings of the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas. He also drew attention to the guidance of the current Worldwide Head of the Community, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmadaba, particularly regarding worsening international relations and the growing threat of nuclear war, and the potentially devastating consequences such conflicts could have on the environment.
Following the speeches, the audience was given the opportunity to ask questions, leading to an engaging and thought-provoking discussion among participants. The programme proved to be a meaningful platform for interfaith dialogue, fostering a greater understanding of Islam on environmental responsibility and climate justice.
