Vile Attempt of Muslim Clerics to Prevent the Ahmadiyya Peace Symposium in Visakhapatnam

FEBRUARY 1, 2024

Stopping the Peace Symposium of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is not only condemnable but also an act that fosters unrest in society.

Declaring the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community as non-Muslim goes against the principles of religious freedom enshrined in the constitution of India.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Visakhapatnam had planned to organise a Peace Symposium, inviting representatives from various faiths and ideologies to share their perspectives on global peace. However, certain Muslim organisations in the city issued an appeal to prevent this event. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community strongly condemns this reprehensible attempt and urges the government to ensure justice. Hindering the Community’s peace efforts is tantamount to spreading disorder in society.

Similarly, the Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board in Visakhapatnam has endorsed the malicious attempt to label the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community as non-Muslim. This action contradicts the principles of tolerance and inter-religious harmony, constituting a clear violation of the Indian Constitution.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has continuously announced its unwavering adherence to the Islamic creed, ‘La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah’. It firmly believes that Allah is One without any partner and recognises Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as the Messenger of God and the Seal of the Prophets. The community sincerely upholds the conviction that the Holy Quran is the ultimate law (Shariah) revealed by God for humanity. Ahmadi Muslims wholeheartedly follow the fundamental tenets of Islam, including the Pillars of Islam and the Articles of Faith. No individual or organisation, hence, has the right to declare its members, who adhere to the Islamic creed (Kalima), as non-Muslims.

Furthermore, several high courts in India have ruled that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is an Islamic organisation. Likewise, the People Census Report of 2011 officially recognises the Community as a sect within Islam.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is dedicated to promoting unity, brotherhood and mutual harmony among various religions, races, and communities in India.

In the face of the deteriorating global situation, where the looming threat of a third world war appears inevitable, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, led by its Worldwide Head Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, organises Peace Symposiums across the nation. These programs serve as a platform for individuals from diverse backgrounds to share their thoughts on achieving the crucial goal of establishing peace in today’s world.

It is disheartening that certain Muslim organisations aim to obstruct such sincere endeavours for peace. Their actions contribute to the spread of disharmony among people, disrupting the peaceful atmosphere of society.

In a secular country like India, it is crucial to note that religious edicts (Fatwas) do not constitute laws, particularly when these edicts are based on the unfounded opinions of clerics rather than the true teachings of Islam.

Peace Symposiums play a crucial role in fostering unity among different communities, strengthening bonds of love, and establishing peace in society. These events should be encouraged and supported as they are organised for the benefit of society.

Islam, literally meaning ‘peace’, inherently rejects any action aimed at disrupting peace. Such actions stand in stark contradiction to Islamic teachings and principles.

We urge all Muslim organisations to act responsibly and refrain from issuing statements that can harm societal peace and religious harmony. We invite them to strive to promote respect and interfaith harmony, which align with the true principles of Islam.

It is indeed regrettable that the so-called religious leaders of Visakhapatnam, instead of clarifying their stand and enlightening the community as to what had been so wrong with Ahmadiya Muslims in conducting a programme on world peace preferred to disrupt
the meet that was meant to bring unity and goodwill amongst people.
