The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a purely religious organisation with no worldly interests. It is a Community that selflessly works for the betterment of the world and the benefit of humanity.
March 23 holds a significant place in the history of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community as it was on this day in 1889 that Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas of Qadian, the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi, founded the Community under Divine instruction. On that day, forty righteous individuals joined the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community by pledging their allegiance to Hazrat Ahmadas and vowed to lead a pious life, stunning from all forms of evil.
Commemorating this historical founding of the Community, every year, this day is celebrated as the Promised Messiah Day (Yaum-e-Masih-e-Maud) by its members worldwide. As today marks the completion of 135 years since the establishment of Ahmadiyyat, the Community, owing to its peaceful teachings, has spread to over 200 countries around the world, with membership exceeding tens of millions.
The Founder of the Ahmadiyya Community, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas, revived the true and pristine teachings of Islam and promoted values such as compassion, brotherhood, and unity, without any discrimination of religion, race, or country. On one occasion, he advised his followers, saying:
“The principle to which we adhere is that we have kindness at heart for the whole of mankind. If anyone sees the house of a Hindu neighbour on fire and does not come forward to help extinguish the fire, most truly I declare that he does not belong to me. If anyone of my followers, having seen someone attempting to murder a Christian does not endeavour to save him, I most truly declare that he does not belong to us.”
[Siraj-e-Munir, Ruhani Khazain, v. 12, p. 28]
At another place, Hazrat Ahmadas said:
“I declare before all Muslims, Christians, Hindus and Aryas that I have no enemy in the world. I love mankind as a mother loves her children, nay even more so. I am only an enemy to those false ideologies that run counter to the truth. Compassion towards mankind is my duty, and to shun deceit, idolatry, injustice and every type of evil action, oppression and immorality is my principle.”
[Arbaeen, Ruhani Khazain, v. 17, p. 344]
Following the demise of Hazrat Ahmadas in 1908, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community was blessed with the spiritual institution of Khilafat (the system of spiritual successorship and leadership). Currently, the Community is under the blessed era of the Fifth Khalifa (Caliph), Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmadaba, who acts as its Worldwide spiritual and administrative Head.
Under the direction of His Holiness, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is working in a number of fields to establish peace and serve humanity. Most importantly, it is drawing the attention of mankind towards recognising their Creator and turning towards Him.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a purely religious organisation with no worldly interests. It is a Community that selflessly works for the betterment of the world and the benefit of humanity. While Ahmadi Muslims worldwide celebrate the Promised Messiah Day by organising various programs that include several activities for the welfare of society, they also offer prayers for the progress of their nations and the peace of the world.
