MARCH 30, 2022
The 45th International Kolkata Book Fair was organized by Publishers & Booksellers Guild from Monday, February 28 to Sunday, 13 March at Central Park grounds, in Salt Lake. The event is the world’s largest non-trade book fair and also the largest book fair in Asia. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has been taking part in this fair for the past 42 years. This year too, our Kolkata chapter participated in the event and by the grace of Allah and the prayers of Khalifatul Masih, the true and peaceful teachings of Islam was conveyed to a large number of people.
During the 14-day fair, 5o members – among whom were missionaries and male and female members of the Community – volunteered at the stall on various days and introduced the community and its true and peaceful ideologies to those who visited the stall and also gift them various leaflets bearing the message of peace and brotherhood. Amongst the visitors were people who viewed Islam as a religion that promoted terrorism and injustice. However, when the true message of Islam was conveyed to them in the light of the teachings of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, they were surprised and could not help admitting that it was only this Community that was representing the true Islam.
Kazi Masum Akhtar, a recipient of Padma Shri in 2020 for literature, visited the stall and acknowledged that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is selflessly engaged in serving humanity despite that they are subject to severe persecution and injustice.
Mr Sajal Ghosh, a government official visited the stall. He was explained the true teachings of Islam and was gifted the book World Crisis and the Pathway to Peace. After listening to the true message of Islam, he said that only the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is capable of spreading the true teachings of Islam. When he expressed his desire to know more about the Community, he was introduced the book Philosophy of the Teachings of Islam by the founder of the Community. He was very inspired after the conversation and expressed his joy on visiting our stall.
On March 8, International Women’s Day, the women’s auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community made their special presence at the fair and propagated the teachings of Islam with regard to women and how it establishes their rights and works for their empowerment. They visited nearby stalls and conveyed the true message of Islam and also gifted some with the books Women in Islam and World Crisis and the Pathway to Peace.
Throughout the fair, the stall was visited by around 9000 people. 6,350 free leaflets and 185 free books were distributed. By the grace of Allah, the true and peaceful message of Islam reached around 16,000 people.
