On 11 February 2024, the Kannur Kasaragod district chapter of Lajna Imaillah, the women’s auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, organised a peace event titled ‘Necessity of Justice in a Turbulent World’ at the Kannur Jawahar Auditorium. As the President of Lajna Imaillah for Kannur and Kasargod districts, my humble self presided the event.

The programme commenced with the recitation of the Quran by Dr Tahira Siddique Sahiba. Kannur Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Adv. Sheela P Indira inaugurated the programme, highlighting the critical need for discussions on justice in the current global climate. Rasheeda Ghafoor, Lajna President for the Kannur City chapter, extended a warm welcome to the guests.

Dr Shama Muhammad, the National Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress, graced the event as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, she urged collective action against the prevailing unrest worldwide and emphasised the importance of establishing peace.

Fatima Jaseena Sahiba delivered the keynote address, emphasising that the essence of religion is to promote peace and justice. She underscored the Quranic solution to the prevailing restlessness in the world as turning towards God and abiding by His commandments.

In the presidential speech, this humble one explained the Islamic values of a fair society, which encompass absolute justice, kindness and kinship.

The programme also featured a 15-minute documentary advocating for peace, along with a congregational poem recitation by Nasirat members (Ahmadi young girls’ auxiliary) and a poem by Sulha Fatima Sahiba. Adv. Preeta T, the Secretary of Indian Lawyers Kannur Unit, extended her good wishes and encouraged the members of Lajna Imaillah to strive for the cause of peace.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Nazira Mansoor Sahiba. Over 250 sisters from both inside and outside the Community participated in the program, reaffirming the collective commitment to pursue justice and peace in a turbulent world.
