RIZWANA SIDDIQA, OUTREACH SECRETARY, LAJNA IMAILLAH SHIMOGA
On 23 May 2026, Lajna Imaillah (women’s auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community), Shimoga, organised an interfaith conference on the theme “Women: Guardians of Peace” at Aadhi Banquet Hall, Shimoga. The event was attended by approximately 150 participants, including guests from diverse religious and professional backgrounds, such as doctors, teachers, writers, academicians, social workers, media representatives, and community leaders.
The programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Mahmooda Begum Sahiba, followed by its Urdu translation by Amtul Habeeb Sameena Sahiba and Kannada translation by Amtul Musavvara Sahiba. A poem was then recited by Humera Anjum Sahiba, after which Saba Samreen Sahiba delivered the welcome address, introducing the objectives and significance of the conference.
Anees Fathima Sahiba, President of Lajna Imaillah Shimoga, delivered the presidential address, highlighting the vital role of women in fostering peace within families and communities. She emphasised that, through their nurturing role and moral guidance, women possess the ability to shape future generations and contribute towards building a more peaceful and harmonious society.
The keynote address on the Islamic perspective of women as guardians of peace was delivered by Fouziya Mubeena Sahiba, President of Lajna Imaillah for the Shimoga and Chitradurga districts. She underscored the vital role women play in establishing peace in every sphere of life and highlighted the teachings of Islam that empower women to become agents of compassion, justice, and social harmony.
Referring to the teachings of Islam Ahmadiyyat, Nusrath Jahan Sahiba delivered a speech in Kannada on the conference theme and elaborated on the responsibilities entrusted to mothers in the upbringing of children. She spoke about the challenges faced by mothers in the modern world and emphasised the importance of nurturing children with strong moral values and a sense of responsibility. She noted that the future of society largely depends upon the character and values instilled by mothers in their children.
Guest speakers representing different faiths and professional backgrounds shared their perspectives on the role of women in promoting peace and social harmony. They commended the efforts of Lajna Imaillah in organising such a meaningful programme and remarked that initiatives encouraging dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect among diverse communities are the need of the hour. They also encouraged the organisation of more such programmes to foster greater awareness and strengthen harmony within society.
A documentary introducing the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and highlighting its efforts to promote peace, interfaith understanding, and service to humanity was also screened during the programme.
The conference was further enriched by Taranas (group songs) presented by Lajna members and students, conveying inspiring messages of unity, love, and peace.
Alongside the conference, a Holy Quran Exhibition provided visitors with an opportunity to learn about the teachings of the Holy Quran and its universal message of peace, justice, and compassion for all mankind. A book stall displaying Ahmadiyya literature also attracted considerable interest among attendees. Guests explored a wide range of publications on peace, spirituality, women’s rights, and the teachings of Islam, gaining a deeper understanding of the message of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
At the conclusion of the programme, the guest speakers were presented with mementoes as tokens of appreciation for their participation. Guests also received informational leaflets, copies of World Crisis and the Pathway to Peace, and translations of the Holy Quran in both Kannada and English.
The conference concluded with silent prayer. Thereafter, participants engaged in cordial discussions over refreshments, providing an opportunity for guests and members to exchange views and strengthen bonds of friendship and mutual understanding. The event concluded on a positive note, successfully promoting the values of peace, respect, and interfaith harmony while reaffirming the vital role of women as guardians of peace and positive change in society.
