Lajna Imaillah (Women’s Auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community), Chennai, organised an Interfaith Conference on Humanity on 26th April 2026 at Masjid Mahmood, Chennai. The conference, chaired by my humble self, aimed to explore the universal values of humanity from the perspectives of different faiths and to promote mutual understanding, compassion, and peaceful coexistence.
The programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Mubeena Shamsudeen Sahiba, followed by its Tamil translation by Ayesha Mueena Sahiba. Faiza Bilqees Sahiba, Secretary Tarbiyat (Moral Training), then introduced the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and Lajna Imaillah, highlighting the Community’s commitment to serving humanity.
A documentary titled “Serving Humanity, Strengthening Peace” was screened, portraying the true Islamic teachings on serving mankind and demonstrating how the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community actively implements these teachings through humanitarian initiatives around the world. The audience was then treated to a heartfelt Urdu poem by Shumaila Ahmad Sahiba, beautifully expressing the spirit of compassion and service, followed by its Tamil translation presented by Dr Faiza Shameem Sahiba.
The conference was enriched by the presence of distinguished guests representing diverse religious and professional backgrounds, including Mrs Rajalakshmi, Social Work Professional and POSH Trainer; Mrs Shanthi Kumaran, Tamil Poetess and Yoga Trainer; Dr Kanmanipriya, Educationist and Headmistress; Dr Akshya, Pediatric Ophthalmologist; Mrs Kamala, Counsellor at a Children’s Home; Mrs Nidhi Jain, Entrepreneur and Homemaker; and Mrs Jency, Entrepreneur and POSH Consultant. Their insightful speeches reflected on humanity through the lens of their respective faiths, personal experiences, and social work, emphasising compassion, selfless service, and harmonious coexistence.
The keynote address, “Serving Humanity, Strengthening Peace”, was delivered by Mariyam Siddiqua Sahiba, Secretary Outreach, Lajna Imaillah Chennai. She explained that the fundamental purpose of all religions is to worship the One God and to serve His creation. She also highlighted the moral teachings of Islam and the efforts of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in fostering peace and promoting humanitarian values worldwide.
In the concluding address, I spoke on “Islam: A Religion of Peace and Compassion”, emphasising that the teachings of Islam advocate justice, mercy, kindness, and service to humanity irrespective of religion, race, or nationality. I also expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the distinguished guests for graciously accepting the invitation and contributing to the success of the conference. The programme concluded with silent prayer.
As part of the event, an exhibition on the theme of humanity was organised, showcasing Islamic teachings on compassion, justice, and service to mankind. A bookstall was also arranged alongside the exhibition, providing visitors with an opportunity to explore the literature of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
As a token of appreciation, each guest was presented with a memento and a gift bag containing the books Life of Muhammad, World Crisis and the Pathway to Peace, and Women in Islam, along with informative leaflets introducing the Community’s message.
The guests highly appreciated the enlightening discussions, the informative exhibition, and the warm hospitality extended by Lajna Imaillah Chennai. More than 100 women attended the conference, recognising that promoting humanity and mutual respect among followers of different religions is an essential step towards establishing lasting peace in society.
