SAYEDA NAYELA, CUTTACK
There is a locker in our almirah where jewellery is kept. In the same locker lies a bag filled with letters that are cherished far more than the gold stored beside them. They are opened often, read repeatedly, and placed back with the utmost care. These are letters from Hazrat Khalifatul Masih—letters that have either been touched directly by him or have come from the very place where our beloved Imam resides. This thought alone is enough to make those papers priceless, let alone the words they carry.
Every Ahmadi child grows up with a love for Khilafat nurtured by their parents. The same was true for my siblings and me. From childhood, we witnessed our parents speak about the Khalifa and the institution of Khilafat with the greatest respect and honour. They wished to instil that same loyalty and devotion within our hearts. For this, they encouraged us to write letters to beloved Huzoor and would reassure us that even if replies did not arrive, our prayers had already reached their destination. And with my hand on my heart, I can say that I have witnessed my prayers being answered in miraculous ways, for I have a Khalifa who prays for me regularly.
Whenever a reply to one of our letters arrives, the joy of that moment surpasses every other happiness in our lives. For any Ahmadi, I believe, nothing can match the feeling of receiving prayers from the Khalifa. Such moments deepen our spiritual bond with our Imam. These are not merely letters; they are physical testimonies of love and belonging. As a child, whenever a letter from beloved Huzoor arrived, I would immediately offer nawafil in gratitude to Allah for granting me the privilege of receiving prayers from the Khalifa. Even today, I continue this practice.
One of the great blessings of this blessed institution is that Hazrat Khalifatul Masih is granted extraordinary acceptance of prayers by Allah the Almighty. Explaining this philosophy, Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra states:
“When Allah the Exalted elevates someone to the position of Khilafat, He increases the acceptance of his prayers because were his prayers not accepted, it would be tantamount to disrespecting His own choice.”[1]
During my years as a student preparing for competitive examinations, thoughts of failure and hopelessness often overwhelmed me. I found it difficult to express my fears to my parents, yet I always found myself comfortable in pouring my heart out to my beloved Khalifa through letters. Even before receiving replies, I would revisit previous letters in which Huzoor had prayed for my success and reminded me that punctuality in namaz and recitation of the Holy Quran were keys to success. Reading those words repeatedly brought peace to my heart. It reassured me that my prayers had found their place before Allah the Almighty and that He is certainly going to answer them.
For a long period, my fear of failure also began affecting my concentration during namaz. I wrote to beloved Huzoor seeking guidance on how to improve my focus during namaz and overcome this distressing state. Huzoor advised me to recite “اِهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ” fervently and frequently.
Even though many of us cannot physically see our beloved Khalifa every day, we still have a powerful spiritual connection with him. It is our responsibility to recognise this immense blessing and mercy of Allah in the form of Khilafat and strive to strengthen our relationship with our Imam through every means available to us. True devotion is never born of mere obligation; it is a bond of sincere love passed from one generation to the next.
May Allah the Almighty continue to shower His grace and mercy upon our beloved Imam, make us obedient and sincere servants of Khilafat, and keep this blessed institution everlasting.
